ABOUT: Matt is a professional photographer and artist in Greensboro, NC. A native of San Diego, Matt first took up photography while living in Chicago. Upon moving to Greensboro he enrolled in the acclaimed photography program at RCC. After realizing his main interest was in working with and photographing people he decided to concentrate in portrait photography, earning his associates degree in 2007. After working for other photography studios, he opened his own studio, Matthew Carlson Photography, in Greensboro in 2007 specializing in lifestyle portraiture and wedding photography. Recently he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and begun creating and exhibiting art in mediums other than photography, particularly sculpture. In his spare time, Matthew is a coach for his 11 year old son's soccer team.
TEACHING CREDENTIALS: Matthew currently teaches with the Autism Society of North Carolina. In this role, he has learned many techniques that allow him to teach to individual's strengths as well as teaching to a group as a whole unit of varying skill levels. He has been an invited guest lecturer to the photography students at Randolph Community College on multiple occasions. Matthew recently joined the CVA teaching staff as a photography instructor for our Youth Photography Collective (YPC), an after-school photo club for middle school students, as well as other photography centered in house programming.
