Los Artistas is a program for middle and high school students (ages 13 - 18) from immigrant families. The free, grant-supported after-school program provides a creative environment to express ones identity and artistic voice through the visual arts. Participants explore their artistic boundaries using a variety of materials and techniques under the guidance of local guest artists who share their craft. Each month a different artist presents a lesson(s) in their area of expertise, sharing not only their talents, but also their own experiences as either an immigrant or as a child from an immigrant family. As a collective, the artists and students within the Los Artistas program, have the opportunity to share the uniqueness of their life and culture as influences on their own art practice, emphasizing how diversity has the ability inspire.
