WHERE ARE PRIVATE LESSONS TAUGHT?
Most private lessons are hosted in our art studios located in the Downtown Greensboro Cultural Center. Due to some constraints in our space, the personal studio space of our instructor artists may also be utilized in special circumstances.
HOW LONG ARE LESSONS?
Start with a series of 3 one-hour sessions. Longer series are available as well as single sessions. We suggest a minimum of 3 sessions for most subjects with a 6 week series for the best results. Some subjects require longer individual sessions like pottery and printmaking due to the nature of the material.
CAN MORE THAN ONE PERSON PARTICIPATE IN A PRIVATE LESSON?
Lessons are available for small groups (up to 5). Small group lessons are similar to traditional workshops you would find at other facilities, but unlike pre-packaged programs, our small group private lessons are customized for your outcome goals. The costs detailed in the Fees Cheat Sheet are based on an individual (one person). This list may be used as a reference for the costs of a small group lesson, however, keep in mind there is a small reduction in cost per person for groups based on the student to instructor ratio.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
It is helpful to bring images or examples of your artwork to your first lesson. This helps guide the instructor initial assessment of your skill level as well as aid you in setting your goals. We provide all basic materials for your lessons. If additional materials are needed you will be provided with a materials list. Students are welcome to bring their own supplies as well. We do encourage students to bring a sketchbook to each lesson.
HOW MUCH DO LESSONS COST?
Fees are based upon the length of each session, number of sessions, and supplies needed based on the subject matter. The minimum private lesson fee is $60. A fee cheatsheet is provided in a link below detailing general private lesson costs, however, because our private lessons are customized for you if is impossible to list all lesson fees. We do discount the program fees for continuing students so as you register for more private lessons, your per lesson fee will be reduced.
Fees Cheat Sheet
If interested in a private lesson in a subject not listed, submit an interest form with your request and we will do our due diligence to find a local artist who specializes in the medium to pair you with. This does require lessons to start at a later date.
WHEN DO I PAY FOR LESSONS?
Payments are due in full prior to your first lesson. The initial payment is processed at time of registration. For continuing students, payment for subsequent lessons must be paid prior to the new series start date. Payments are to be made to the office in person or over the phone, 336.333.7475, Monday - Friday (10am - 5pm). Students should never give their program payment to their instructor.
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
If you must reschedule your lesson, please email your instructor asap and cc firstname.lastname@example.org to notify our office staff of your cancellation. You are responsible for scheduling a make up lesson with your instructor. Make up lessons must be scheduled within 30 days of your cancellation date. The CVA reserves the right to discontinue your lessons without refund or credit after 3 consecutive cancellations.
WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?
Registrant cancellations are 100% transferable to another class/camp or 50% refundable. NO REFUNDS or CREDITS will be issued for day of cancellations. See cancellation policy above. The CVA will only cancel a lesson due to inclement weather or scheduling conflicts.
WHAT IF I AM LATE?
If you arrive late, your lesson will still end at its scheduled time. If your instructor arrives late, your lessons will be extended for the full session scheduled. Our instructors make every attempt to arrive on time to your lesson and typically arrive early to set up so please make it a priority to also arrive on time.
