Dirty Fingernails

WHO?
Dirty Fingernails is an annual exhibition, celebration, and fundraiser hosted by the Center for Visual Artists, a non-profit located in downtown Greensboro, NC.

WHAT?
Dirty Fingernails began as an end of the summer camp art exhibition in 2006.  Each year its numbers have grown to now feature over 600 works of art that represents over 300 young artists in our community between the ages of 3 to 18.  In 2008, the annual Dirty Fingernails Celebration was introduced as an interactive family event to highlight the exhibition.  A fundraising component in conjunction with the celebration began that same year.  Dirty Fingernails raises money for the CVA Summer Scholarship Fund to provide monetary support for all children to have the opportunity to attend camp.

EXHIBITION
The Dirty Fingernails Exhibition is the biggest children’s art exhibition in the area and only one of its kind representing over 300 young artists. Every CVA camp participant is featured in the exhibition with at least a single work of art on display. The exhibition includes work in all media. This year's exhibition will have a POP-UP SHOP theme!

CELEBRATION
We are opening the exhibition with a Dirty Fingernails Celebration, a free interactive family event open to the public. The Celebration includes art activities, fashion show, sweet treats, and more. Join us to celebrate the young artists in our community!

FUNDRAISER
The Dirty Fingernails Exhibition and Celebration is an opportunity for families and those in the community to support the arts in an easy way. Admission to the show is $1. Large dollar tax-deductible donations may also be made. 100% of the proceeds support our Scholarship Fund.

WHERE?
The Center for Visual Artists Gallery, 2nd floor of the Greensboro Cultural Center located on 200 N. Davie St., Greensboro, NC 27401.

WHY?
Displaying children’s art in a gallery setting promotes self-esteem and self-confidence not only in regards to artistic ability and talent, but to the simple idea that the artwork that they created with their own hands and imagined using their own creative minds is important enough to be on display for all to see.

Dirty Fingernails is also our big event each year to promote our Scholarship Program that allows us to offer art enrichment opportunities throughout the year to families that may not be able to afford such programs.
